Our Museum Trip

Last week, we went to the Museum and this is what we learnt...

We learnt about Waka and carving and so many interesting things.

These were some of the comments the students shared after our trip:

Did you know that a Waka was carved from an enormous tree - its HUGE!

Did you see all the carvings?

The feathers on the eyes of the waka are albatross feathers.

We heard a story about Matariki and there were heaps of lights and darkness

Did you know that the sculpture outside the museum is called 'The Tongue of the Dog'.

Making Tukutuku panels for our Wharenui...

We have been busy in Room 3 creating Tukutuku panels for our Wharenui...We used paper to weave our panels.

We have also been working on our class Korowai for the Art Exhibition next term...but you'll have to wait and see, it is gorgeous!

A flying challenge

We chose to accept this science challenge today.

We were given some eyelets, sellotape, string, an animal, balloons, straws.  We had to see if we could make our animal fly without a human touching it.

Things that fly...

We are learning about things that fly.  
We saw lots of balloons flying over Hamilton East School this morning and we wrote stories about our own balloons that we made up.  We also made paper planes to see if we could make something that flies...
