Happy Mother's Day

This week we read the book My Mom by Anthony Browne. Then we talked about all the wonderful things that our mother's, aunties, or nana's... do for us and wrote about the ways that this love is expressed using parts of the body.

The students drew these beautiful pictures to put with their writing.

Have a look at our beautiful ladies!!

Friend Wanted

In Room 4 we have been learning about advertisements.

We had a look at a section of the newspaper called the Classifieds, found in the back of the newspaper. Then everyone had a go writing an advertisement for a friend. The first part of the writing is about what kind of a friend we'd like to have, and the second part is about what kind of a friend we are. The black tape covers the name so everyone has to guess who's written it.

Can you guess who has written these ads?

Here's a hint: one of these each belongs to

Harleth, Radian, Jenelia or Abrish

Swimming Lessons

This week we were lucky enough to have two swimming instructors take us for our swimming lessons.

We have been learning to:

1. Float on our front in the water and then flip onto our backs and make a starfish.

2. Do doggie paddle across the pool, without our feet touching the bottom!

3. Stretch our arms up and together, then dive across the pool.

4. Hold onto the bar and kick in the water.

5. Keeping our arms stretched out, we made crocodile fingers to hold onto our flutter boards, as we kicked our way along the pool.

We had fun learning lots of new skills which we will continue practising over the next couple of weeks.

Portrait Art

Have a look at these awesome portraits,

made by Room 4.

Before we jumped straight into colouring, we spent some time looking at lots of pictures of faces. Then we paired up with and sketched a classmate. After that, using pencil we drew our face on a large piece of paper and traced over it with sharpie. Then we rubbed out the pencil and added colour using a mix of crayons and chalk pastels.

Our Room 4 Treaty

We have been making connections to the history and importance of the Treaty of Waitangi.

First, we read a book called the Tree Hut Treaty by Wiremu Grace and we discussed what the problem was and how it was solved. The problem had been resolved by creating a treaty between the neighbouring children.

Then, we did an activity to identify what a good classroom Looks like...Sounds like... and Feels like....

Finally, we brainstormed our own class rules and added our handprints to sign our class treaty.
