I love this photo, this is what we encourage our students to do, looking out for each other and being kind.

Growing...

As part of our topic this term, we will be looking at 'Growing'...

We will be growing beans and learning about how things grow and what they need to survive.

We will also look at our own growing..., how our hair grows, our bodies grow....

Watch this space for pictures of what we get up to.

Survival...

As part of a collaborative week, Rooms 4,5 and 6 joined together and had a fun week of learning.  These photos were taken of the group that was looking at 'survival'.

This group made a hut on Putikitiki and then made butter to put on their bread, followed by cooking a sausage on the cooker, then they had to make a hut inside Room 5 out of what they could find.  The students enjoyed eating their cooked sausage under their shelter.

Making Huts on Putikitiki

We had an amazing time making huts out of what we could find on Putikitiki.  We pretended we were survivors and had to make a shelter for ourselves.  Everyone helped out!  It was really neat working as a team.

Working as a team was the best feeling ever...

Peek a boo!

We even decorated our hut with flowers and made it a hut for fairies.

Making Butter...

As part of our topic this term, we wrote a whole list of things that we thought we could make.  Butter was one of them.  Today, we made butter.  It was pretty easy really.  All you need is a jar with a good fitting lid, some cream and a little bit of salt.  And the most important thing is muscle power to shake the jar very hard.

BINGO!

We are learning how to play a game altogether.

Stu Duval - Storyteller

We were so fortunate to listen to an amazing storyteller called Stu Duval.  Stu told us a story about why Possums are afraid of lights.  See if your child can re-tell the story for you.

The Market Shop and the making place

We have a making place in our classroom where we can make things out of boxes and paper and glue and we can use scissors and staples and cellotape.  We love making things!

Sketching a peacock feather

Shelley was sitting drawing in her sketch book a peacock feather, one by one we slowly came to her to see what she was up to.  We saw her sketching and joined in.

A peacock feather is very delicate did you know...

Matatriki Celebrations

We celebrated the Maori New Year by sharing some songs/waitata during Positive Assembly and making headbands with seven stars.  Check out our pictures...
